One item I saw that I was considering doing as a summer unit is a study on Russia. I found a very hands on curriculum written by Jessica Hulcy (Konos). It's called Russia- The Land of Endurance. The cost was $99 for this kit, and that was a bit over my budget (especially saving for our adoption). I found the complete kit at the used curriculum fair for $40!! It was never even used! Yeah!!
I have been debating whether or not to attempt teaching Konos next year, as it requires a ton of hands on planning. With two new little ones, I don't know how I would handle that..... BUT, I DO have the time this summer!
Here is a photo of the books and a description of a few of the crafts that come with the curriculum: (Sorry the photos aren't the greatest- I'm rushing tonight...) ;-)

Russia: The Land of Endurance crafts include:
- Matryoshka doll kit includes a set of stackable matryoshka dolls, paint, and paint brushes
- Pysanky egg kit includes a kitska, a block of beeswax, egg dyes, and pysanky egg designs for pysanky eggs
- Embroidery design kit includes felt, needles, and yarn for embroidery designs of book markers .
