Questions?

For those of you that have done this before.... how exactly did you go about labeling your pictures for the new children? I mean the alphabets are completely different. Any direction like to a website or something....would be so appreciated! Hey, email me offline if you have step by step instructions.... :-)

Secondly, Carrie you mentioned the seeing the little ones before they come home from Russia. (Meaning family back home via webcam). Did you take pictures of S on the webcam? Did you bring your laptop to the orphanage? I think that is a great idea, but I think I'm missing something? I probably am! LOL!

Since most of you brought laptops to Russia. Did you carry them with you all the time? We have a snazzy laptop backpack (okay, it's just black...but it's pretty cool- Chris won it in a raffle at his company picnic). We are going to make sure dh carries that around on the plane etc. We don't really have a slimline laptop and the thing is heavy! It will work much better on his back.

We carried our laptop on the planes with us. We did feel somfortable leaving our laptop in our hotel room in Moscow, we just 'hid' it instead of leaving it out in the open. Same in Izhevsk. Occasionally we carried it with us but left it in the bag in the trunk of our driver's car. They were okay with that.

We took our laptop and left it in the hotel with no problems. We were not allowed to use it in the hotel's business center. We had to use the hotel's computer which was fine, but we did also find other WiFi connections at the hotel (through the window from an internet cafe a few miles away LOL) and at the airports. I mainly used our laptop to journal this emotional time while it was still fresh in my mind and I typed blog posts in MS Word which I copied to a thumb drive. I plugged the thumbdrive in the hotel's computer so I could cut and paste the content to my blog. It saved time and money doing it that way because the hotel charged for time on the internet.

Jackie, if you have time to get the Fred Des Chenes "Russian Phrases for Children" it comes with a pocket size handbook that has all the names of family and rooms your home. For example, it shows how to say, "This is your brother." and "This is your bedroom." It shows both the Cyrillic and Phonetic spellings. Is also has reassurring and affectionate phrases that I think would be very helpful with your new boys. If you don't have time to get it, email me and I'll send you copies of the pages you need.

The online sites I use is google.com language tools and Babelfish.

Hi - we adopted from Russia in 2005 and just started our HS to travel back. We took our laptop with us and had the backpack too. It came with us everywhere, our in-country staff scared us into thinking it would be taken from our hotel room. Next time, we will leave it. :)
